A 7-day Türkiye itinerary for families: four relaxed nights in Istanbul, then three nights in Trabzon, Antalya or Sapanca depending on the season.
Seven days is the length Gulf families choose most often, and the most common mistake is trying to fit four cities into those seven days. Every change of city means an airport, a packed suitcase and half a lost day for the children. In our experience the best formula is four nights in Istanbul and three nights at a single escape. The escape changes with the season, and we give all three versions below.
Days 1–4: Istanbul (the same in every season)
Day 1: meet-and-greet with an Arabic-speaking driver, a hotel with connecting rooms in Fatih or Sultanahmet, dinner at an Arabic restaurant near the hotel and an early night. Day 2: the Byzantine & Ottoman Relics Tour (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Sacred Relics at Topkapi, Grand Bazaar); guided, with a Dhuhr prayer break, back at the hotel by 17:00. Day 3: the Bosphorus Cruise & Two Continents Tour (Beylerbeyi Palace, Camlica); kumpir at Ortakoy in the evening. Day 4: free day, Vialand or the Princes' Islands for the children, Mall of Istanbul or Istinye Park for the parents; Turkish Night optional in the evening.
Days 5–7, Version A: Trabzon (June–September)
Day 5: 2-hour morning flight to Trabzon, drive with your driver to Uzungol, check in to a lakeside bungalow, trout for dinner. Day 6: 4x4 to the Haldizen plateau, waterfalls, ATV; cycling around the lake in the afternoon. Day 7: Sumela Monastery, Hamsikoy rice pudding, evening flight from Trabzon home via Istanbul or one more night in Istanbul. This is our best-selling programme for families escaping the summer heat.
Days 5–7, Version B: Antalya (April–June, September–October)
Day 5: 1 hour 15 minute flight to Antalya, all-inclusive hotel in Lara or Belek, pool in the afternoon. Day 6: full day at the hotel: kids' club, water slides, ladies-only beach hour; evening walk in Kaleici and the marina. Day 7: Duden Waterfall and Antalya Aquarium (or Land of Legends), evening return from Antalya via Istanbul. In summer (July–August) this version suits only families who want to stay at the hotel.
Days 5–7, Version C: Sapanca (any season, for those avoiding flights)
Day 5: 2-hour drive with your driver to Sapanca, village breakfast by the stream in Masukiye on the way, check in to a lakeside bungalow. Day 6: Kartepe cable car (snow and sledging in winter, forest in summer), cycling and pedal boats on the lake in the afternoon. Day 7: breakfast by the lake, check-out at 11:00, 1 hour 15 minutes to Sabiha Gokcen Airport (2.5 hours to Istanbul Airport). No flights, suitcases opened once, the most economical version.
Budget (approximate, 2 adults + 3 children)
Version A: 4* hotels, 2 guided tours in Istanbul, 3 days of private vehicle in Trabzon, all transfers, domestic flight excluded: about 3,150 USD. Version B: Istanbul 4* + Antalya 5* all-inclusive, domestic flight included: about 3,400 USD. Version C: Istanbul 4* + Sapanca bungalow, all transfers by private vehicle: about 2,300 USD. In all versions children aged 0–5 travel free; bookings are confirmed with a 60% deposit paid online, and the remaining 40% is paid on arrival in Türkiye. Five rules for families
One: leave the first day empty so the children rest after the flight. Two: at most one major museum a day. Three: Dhuhr prayer and lunch in the same break; the guide plans it. Four: keep the same driver all week; the children get used to him and you have his number. Five: keep the last day flexible around the flight, leave the suitcases at the hotel and go to the bazaar one more time.
