Overview

A balloon flight in Cappadocia begins with hotel pick-up about 45 minutes before sunrise. At the launch field, over hot tea and a light breakfast, you watch the balloons being inflated; these 20 minutes are among the best photo moments. Boarding the basket is easy, each compartment holds 4–5 people and the pilot gives a safety briefing before take-off.

The flight lasts about 60 minutes. Using the wind, the pilot dips over the Red Valley, Love Valley and Goreme, descending to within a few metres of the rock formations before climbing to 500–800 metres; more than 100 balloons share the sky as the sun rises behind the valleys. The basket does not sway during the flight, and even guests with a fear of heights usually feel at ease.

After landing there is a toast with non-alcoholic sparkling juice, a personalised flight certificate and a return to your hotel at around 08:00. The price includes hotel transfer, flight insurance and the certificate. The standard balloon carries 16–20 guests; comfort baskets for 8–12 and private baskets for 2–4 are available at a supplement. Flights are subject to Civil Aviation approval and can be cancelled for wind at 05:00 on the day, so book for your first morning in Cappadocia.
