A week that balances the pace of the city with the silence of the forest: five nights in Istanbul and two on the shore of Lake Abant in Bolu, 1,300 metres up. You escape to nature in the middle of the programme and return to the city for the Old City in the final two days.
At Abant you stay half board in a lake-view hotel, walk the flat path around the lake or take a horse-drawn carriage. On your free day your driver is ready for Gölcük and Yedigöller; the forest colours in autumn and the snow-covered lake in winter are each special in their own way.
It is the nature package most often chosen by Gulf families escaping the summer heat: clean air, safe walking paths and wide meadows for children to run in.
When your flight lands at Istanbul Airport (IST), our representative meets you in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name and escorts you with your luggage to your private air-conditioned vehicle. After a transfer of about 45 min you check in to your hotel and receive your Turkish SIM card and the 24/7 WhatsApp support number.
The first evening is free so you can rest after your journey. Your guide shares recommendations for halal restaurants within walking distance and an easy evening stroll around Sultanahmet or Taksim. The next day's pickup time is confirmed via WhatsApp.
Pickup at 09:00 and a short drive to Eminönü, where you first explore the Spice Bazaar with its stalls of spices, Turkish delight and nuts. A 1.5-hour cruise then takes you past Dolmabahçe Palace, Ortaköy Mosque, the Bosphorus Bridge, Rumeli Fortress and the wooden waterfront mansions. The afternoon ends with the panoramic view from Çamlıca Hill and Beylerbeyi Palace on the Asian side; feeding the seagulls from the boat is a favourite with children.
No fixed programme today – after breakfast the day is yours. Suggestions: shopping at İstinye Park or Zorlu Center, a walk from Galata Tower along İstiklal Street, a scrub and foam massage in a historic hammam (USD 60) or the evening Bosphorus dinner cruise with show (USD 65). Families can add Vialand theme park (USD 45) or Istanbul Aquarium; a private driver for the whole day is available at USD 150.
Depart at 09:00; about 3 hours on the TEM motorway with a lakeside coffee stop in Sapanca. Arrival at noon at Lake Abant, 1,300 m above sea level, and check-in at your lake-view hotel. In the afternoon walk or ride a horse-drawn carriage around the 7 km flat lakeside path; dinner at the hotel (half board).
Breakfast with a view of the lake. The day is free: your driver can take you to Lake Gölcük (40 min) and Yedigöller National Park (1.5 h) – vehicle included for the day – or choose horse riding, cycling or the hotel spa. Children love the ducks on the shore and the forest playground; dinner at the hotel.
Depart at 10:00 after breakfast, with a stop at the local produce market in Bolu; check-in at your Istanbul hotel around 13:30. Free afternoon: the streets of Galata and Karaköy are recommended.
Depart at 08:30 with your guide for Sultanahmet: Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome and the Basilica Cistern. After lunch at a local restaurant you visit Topkapı Palace including the Harem and the Sacred Relics rooms. The day ends with free time among the 4,000 shops of the Grand Bazaar; walking distances are short and stroller-friendly.
After breakfast you check out; if your flight is later in the day your luggage is stored at reception. Your private vehicle is waiting at the hotel 3 hours before departure and reaches Istanbul Airport (IST) in about 45 min.
