10 Days in Türkiye: Best Itinerary for First-Timers

A 10-day Türkiye itinerary for first-time visitors: Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, Pamukkale and Antalya, with domestic flights, budget and best seasons.

Ten days is enough for a family seeing Türkiye for the first time to balance city, nature and sea. The route below is designed for guests who land in and depart from Istanbul; if you have a direct flight from the Gulf to Antalya, the order can be reversed. Domestic flights take 1–1.5 hours, and most routes are direct; a few, such as Kayseri–Izmir, need a connection.

Days 1–3: Istanbul

Day one is for rest and an evening on Istiklal Street or at Eminonu; day two is the Byzantine & Ottoman Relics Tour (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi, Grand Bazaar); day three the Bosphorus boat, Beylerbeyi and Camlica. Stay in Fatih or Sultanahmet, where the museums are within walking distance and halal restaurants are on every corner. Most families keep the third evening for a shopping mall.

Days 4–5: Cappadocia

Take a morning flight to Kayseri; the same day, do the North tour (Goreme, Pasabag, Avanos) and spend the night in a cave hotel. On the fifth morning comes the balloon flight (optional; book it for your first morning), then the South tour or, for families, a lighter programme: Uchisar Castle, a horse farm and a classic car tour. In the evening fly from Kayseri to Izmir (with a connection) or take the first flight the next morning.

Days 6–7: Ephesus and Pamukkale

Day six: from Izmir to Ephesus (1 hour) for the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, the House of the Virgin Mary and the Cave of the Seven Sleepers; night in a seaside hotel in Kusadasi. Day seven: morning drive to Pamukkale (3 hours) for the travertines, Hierapolis and Cleopatra's Pool; night in a thermal hotel in Pamukkale. A private vehicle and an Arabic-speaking guide for these two days are a big help for families with children.

Days 8–9: Antalya

From Denizli to Antalya it is 3.5 hours by road (a scenic drive), or you can fly. Spend two nights at an all-inclusive hotel in Lara or Belek: the afternoon of day eight by the pool and beach, and day nine for Kaleici, the Duden Waterfall and, optionally, Antalya Aquarium. The Land of Legends theme park takes a full day with children; if you prefer, schedule it instead of Kaleici.

Day 10: Departure

Fly from Antalya Airport via Istanbul or, in summer, directly to the Gulf. If your flight is in the evening, enjoy a last morning swim and ask for a transfer after the noon check-out.

Budget and practical notes

For a family of four with 4-star hotels, domestic flights, private transfers and guided tours, this route costs roughly 1,600–2,200 USD per person (international flights excluded); prices change with the season, so ask us on WhatsApp for a current quote. April–June and September–October are the most comfortable periods; in July–August Antalya and Pamukkale are very hot, while Cappadocia has a drier heat. Mosques for prayer times are easy to find in every city, and our guides adjust the programme accordingly. Families wanting a slower pace can drop the Ephesus–Pamukkale days and rest an extra day in Istanbul. This route can also be booked as a package at one price, for example by combining the Istanbul & Cappadocia Package with Ephesus & Pamukkale 2 Days by Plane.
