Spending Eid in Türkiye with your family: where to pray the Eid prayer, when hotels fill up, how much prices rise and which route suits Eid week best.
Spending Eid in Türkiye offers Gulf families two advantages: the Eid prayer on the morning of the feast at Hagia Sophia or the Blue Mosque, and the festive mood of bazaars, funfairs and the Bosphorus during the public holiday. But millions of people in Türkiye travel the same week, so early planning is essential. The next Eids are expected around 9–11 March 2027 (Eid al-Fitr) and 16–19 May 2027 (Eid al-Adha); the dates move about 11 days earlier each year and may shift by a day with moon sighting.
When to book
Istanbul hotels fill 2–3 months ahead for Eid week and prices rise 40–80 percent; in Trabzon and Uzungol the bungalows for Eid al-Adha start selling out about three months ahead. Flights rise the same way: a Riyadh–Istanbul ticket for Eid week can cost double the usual fare. Our rule is simple: book about three months before Eid al-Adha and two to three months before Eid al-Fitr. Many hotels require non-refundable prepayment for Eid week, so be sure of your dates.
Where to pray the Eid prayer
The most crowded and most moving Eid prayer in Istanbul is at Hagia Sophia; you need to arrive more than an hour before the prayer (around 05:30 when Eid falls in May), and the upper gallery is reserved for ladies. The Blue Mosque, Suleymaniye and Eyup Sultan are the other major choices. In Trabzon, Uzungol Mosque sits on the lakeshore; in Antalya, Muratpasa Mosque is central. In Nivo Travel's Eid package the driver drops you at the mosque an hour early and collects you after the prayer; for families we prefer hotels within walking distance of the mosque.
How Eid day unfolds
The first day of Eid starts with the prayer in the morning, followed by a family breakfast; we organise breakfast on a private boat on the Bosphorus. In the afternoon most bazaars are closed, and the Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar do not open on the first day; they open from the second day. Malls and funfairs (Vialand, Mall of Istanbul) are open and busy every day of Eid. Museums are closed until noon on the first day and open afterwards. Public transport in Istanbul has often been free during the Eid holidays, so check locally when you arrive.
Which route
For Eid al-Fitr (expected in early March) Istanbul alone is enough; the weather is 10–15°C and there is still snow on Uludag in Bursa. Eid al-Adha (expected in mid-May) falls in one of the most beautiful periods of the year in Türkiye: Istanbul is 20–25°C, the sea in Antalya is around 22°C and balloon cancellations in Cappadocia are few. Our most popular Eid combinations are 4 nights Istanbul + 3 nights Trabzon, or 4 nights Istanbul + 3 nights Antalya. For those wanting to avoid crowds, Sapanca and Abant stay quiet during Eid.
Sacrifice (qurbani)
For guests wishing to offer a sacrifice in Türkiye at Eid al-Adha, the Diyanet (Religious Affairs) proxy system is available: you pay the fee announced each year by the Diyanet, the animal is sacrificed on your behalf and the meat is distributed to those in need. Applications are made about two weeks before Eid; our team handles the procedure for you. Visiting the slaughter sites in the city is possible but not recommended for children.
Our Eid packages

We open Eid proposals 12 months ahead. Bookings are confirmed with a 60% deposit paid online, and the remaining 40% is paid on arrival in Türkiye. Eid-week hotel rates are often non-refundable; when that is the case, we tell you before you confirm. Send us your expected dates and family make-up on WhatsApp, where our team answers 24/7.
