A three-day programme for those who want to see the three great ancient centres of western Anatolia at a relaxed pace. The route runs from the crowds of Ephesus to the hilltop acropolis of Pergamon and on to the white terraces of Pamukkale, with one main stop per day so nobody gets worn out.
The first night is on the Kuşadası seafront and the second in Izmir's lively Alsancak district, both leaving time for an evening walk and dinner by the sea. Your guide stays with you for all three days, and entrance fees and lunches are included.
Ideal for history lovers, faith-tourism guests and families who prefer culture to a beach holiday; all flights and transfers are planned from Istanbul back to Istanbul.
When your flight lands at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), our representative meets you in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name and escorts you with your luggage to your private air-conditioned vehicle. After a transfer of about 1 hours you check in to your hotel and receive your Turkish SIM card and the 24/7 WhatsApp support number. The 07:00 flight from Istanbul is included; you land in Izmir at 08:10 and set off directly for Ephesus with your guide.
Begin at 09:00 at the House of the Virgin Mary on Mount Koressos, then walk the marble street of Ephesus with your guide: the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, the Terrace Houses and the 25,000-seat Great Theatre. After lunch at a village restaurant in Selçuk you visit the Temple of Artemis and the Basilica of St John. Check-in at your Kuşadası seafront hotel in the evening.
Free evening; a marina walk and sunset at Pigeon Island are recommended. Departure at 08:00 next morning.
At 08:00 you head north on a 2.5-hour drive to Pergamon. A cable car takes you up to the Acropolis to see the world's steepest theatre, the site of the Altar of Zeus and the Temple of Athena. After lunch, the ancient healing centre of the Asclepion and the Red Basilica; check-in at your hotel in Izmir's Alsancak district in the evening.
Depart at 07:30; about 3 hours by motorway with a break in Sarayköy. Arrival at the foot of the terraces at 10:30.
Walk barefoot over the white limestone terraces and rest your feet in the 35°C thermal pools – the favourite part for children. With your guide you explore the Roman theatre, necropolis and Cleopatra's Pool (optional entry, USD 15) of ancient Hierapolis. Lunch at a restaurant in the village. Transfer to Denizli airport at 16:30.
After breakfast you check out; if your flight is later in the day your luggage is stored at reception. Your 20:30 return flight from Denizli to Istanbul is included. Your private vehicle is waiting at the hotel 3 hours before departure and reaches Denizli Cardak Airport (DNZ) in about 1 hours.
