A week for history lovers balanced with a beach holiday: four nights in Istanbul and three in Kuşadası. After the Bosphorus and the Old City in Istanbul you fly to Izmir and reach your hotel on the Aegean coast within an hour.
Ephesus is only 20 minutes from Kuşadası: the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre and the House of the Virgin Mary fill a full guided day. On the third day you can relax on the hotel beach or make a day trip to the white terraces of Pamukkale.
With aqua-park family hotels, short transfers and a direct return flight from Izmir, it is the most comfortable Aegean programme for families with children.
When your flight lands at Istanbul Airport (IST), our representative meets you in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name and escorts you with your luggage to your private air-conditioned vehicle. After a transfer of about 45 min you check in to your hotel and receive your Turkish SIM card and the 24/7 WhatsApp support number.
The first evening is free so you can rest after your journey. Your guide shares recommendations for halal restaurants within walking distance and an easy evening stroll around Sultanahmet or Taksim. The next day's pickup time is confirmed via WhatsApp.
Pickup at 09:00 and a short drive to Eminönü, where you first explore the Spice Bazaar with its stalls of spices, Turkish delight and nuts. A 1.5-hour cruise then takes you past Dolmabahçe Palace, Ortaköy Mosque, the Bosphorus Bridge, Rumeli Fortress and the wooden waterfront mansions. The afternoon ends with the panoramic view from Çamlıca Hill and Beylerbeyi Palace on the Asian side; feeding the seagulls from the boat is a favourite with children.
Depart at 08:30 with your guide for Sultanahmet: Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome and the Basilica Cistern. After lunch at a local restaurant you visit Topkapı Palace including the Harem and the Sacred Relics rooms. The day ends with free time among the 4,000 shops of the Grand Bazaar; walking distances are short and stroller-friendly.
No fixed programme today – after breakfast the day is yours. Suggestions: shopping at İstinye Park or Zorlu Center, a walk from Galata Tower along İstiklal Street, a scrub and foam massage in a historic hammam (USD 60) or the evening Bosphorus dinner cruise with show (USD 65). Families can add Vialand theme park (USD 45) or Istanbul Aquarium; a private driver for the whole day is available at USD 150.
After breakfast you are collected from your hotel and driven to Istanbul Airport (IST) (ticket and 20 kg baggage included). A domestic flight of about 1 hours 5 min brings you to Kusadasi, where our local team meets you and transfers you to your hotel in around 1 hours. Landing in Izmir and a one-hour motorway drive to Kuşadası; afternoon on the hotel beach, dinner at the hotel (half board).
Begin at 09:00 at the House of the Virgin Mary on Mount Koressos, then walk the marble street of Ephesus with your guide: the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, the Terrace Houses and the 25,000-seat Great Theatre. After lunch at a village restaurant in Selçuk you visit the Temple of Artemis and the Basilica of St John. A short stop in Şirince village on the way back; at the hotel by 17:30 for dinner.
A day for the hotel beach and pool. Alternatively, depart at 07:30 for a full-day tour of the Pamukkale terraces and Hierapolis (USD 75 per person, lunch included, 3-hour drive each way). Other options: Pigeon Island and the Kuşadası bazaar, or the beaches of Dilek Peninsula National Park (30 min by car).
After breakfast you check out; if your flight is later in the day your luggage is stored at reception. The connecting flight from Izmir to Istanbul is included. Your private vehicle is waiting at the hotel 3 hours before departure and reaches Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) in about 1 hours. Cancellations up to 15 days before arrival receive a full refund. Cancellations 7–14 days before arrival are charged 50% of the package price; cancellations under 7 days and no-shows are charged 100%. During Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and New Year periods hotels and domestic tickets are non-refundable and special terms are stated at the time of booking. Balloon flights cancelled due to weather are refunded in full.
